KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—The University of Tennessee is working with architect Lindsay & Maples to update the campus’s vaunted Lindsey Nelson Stadium at Robert M. Lindsay Field.

Part of the $6 million work entails increasing the overall seating capacity to 3,500 as well as redesigning the entire front entrance of the student athletic complex. Additionally, the right-outfield wall is being raised to bring it flush with the scoreboard so as to eliminate views of the neighboring railyard.

Other cosmetic and functional upgrades include improving water drainage from the athletic field, updating the dressing rooms and adding two additional entrances to the stadium. New concession areas and improved concourses are also on deck.

Luxury seating above the grandstand, MVP seats and outfield “porches” are also featbeing added by general contractor Johnson & Galyon Construction. That firm is located in Knoxville, close to the university, and has built out several other projects at the University of Tennessee and other nearby high schools and academies.
